4 Signs You Need a Coach

Five years ago.

That was the first time I experienced what a good coach could do for me. I was working for a start-up marketing firm at the time, and once a month as a leadership team we’d drive to downtown Oklahoma City and meet with an executive leadership coach. He’d review our financials, look at all the projects we were working on, help us make sense of all the ideas in our head, and give us clarity about how to move forward to reach our specific business goals.

While we definitely made progress with the business, the biggest thing I recognized was the difference it made for me on a personal level. I grew in my self-awareness and was encouraged to pursue my potential. I felt understood and was able to verbally process all that was weighing on me as a leader. I was able to work through challenges and have a helpful, unbiased perspective to find solutions. It changed my life.

Fast forward to today. I’m working with a different coach and developing my own coaching practice, challenging Christian women to chase their potential and live with purpose. All because someone first encouraged me to use the gifts God gave me.

What is a coach?

You may be asking, what is a coach? Imagine if a personal trainer, therapist, and strategic planner all got together and honed their superpowers. Working with a coach helps you process through the mental blocks holding you back, get clear about what you want in life, and develop plans to become the best version of yourself.

And if you’re a business owner, a coach can do all that while also helping you grow a profitable business. Sounds pretty great, right? It is.

How does it work?

While each coach is different, each practice usually starts by identifying what the participant wants to get out of the session. They look at their current reality and underline what success would look like for them individually. From there, coaches have their own plans and rhythms to help people adopt a growth mindset, remove pain points in their lives and businesses, and work through exercises that will ultimately help the participant reach their goals.

In just a few short sessions, my current coach has already helped me make more progress on my goals and dreams than I had made in over two years by myself. He’s held me accountable, pushed me to grow, and encouraged me to take risks and push back the fears that have always kept me small. All while helping me stay clear and focused on what I want to achieve for my business, faith, finances, and family.

Who is it for?

Contrary to what you might’ve thought or been told, coaching isn’t just something for business owners or leaders in the professional world.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, stay at home mom, or just have a dream in your heart you want to pursue, coaching can help provide the accountability, clarity, and motivation to take you to the next level.

You may be asking yourself, “how could I benefit from working with a coach?” Read on to learn about a few of the signs that coaching is right for you.

4 Signs You Need a Coach for Your Life

  1. You feel stuck or unmotivated and you don’t know how to move forward

A lot of people just go through the motions in life. They’re moving, sometimes at a fast pace in a million directions, but not necessarily moving forward. If you’re wanting clarity and motivation in life, coaches can ignite the passion you need to build a life of purpose. They can inspire you to be more intentional about your daily decisions. Coaching helps you make the RIGHT next steps, not just the steps that keep you busy.

  2. You’re in your own head and need someone to help point out your potential

Have you ever hit a low moment when you wondered what makes you special? You wonder why God created you and want to learn more about what your unique gifts are. One of the greatest aspects of having a coach is having a personal encourager. You have direct access to someone who can call out your greatness (who isn’t a biased loved one so you know it’s legit) and successfully pinpoint the strengths and gifts in you that you can’t see yourself.

  3. You need encouragement or accountability to accomplish your goals

According to a recent study, sharing with others and seeking accountability makes it roughly 95% more likely you’ll accomplish your goals. If you find yourself continually restarting projects or goals or not keeping the promises you make to yourself, having a coach could be the difference between spinning your wheels to reach a goal and actually accomplishing it.

  4. You have a specific idea or dream but you’re not sure how to get there

It’s one thing to have an idea. It’s a whole other ballgame to actually know how to make it a reality. A good coach can help you see the low hanging fruit to make progress and the forest for the trees. More importantly, they can guide you to get clear about what you want in life and reverse engineer the process so you have specific action plans and a road map to success.

Joyful Takeaway: It’s one thing to have an idea. It’s a whole other ballgame to actually know how to make it a reality.
